That Thing You Do
“I don’t fucking believe this.”
JC watched Justin pace from one end of the hotel suite to the other. He’d been doing it for a good twenty minutes now – ever since he’d decided on a lark to do a Google search for JT rumors– and JC was tired just watching him.
“Baby, come over here and sit down.”
“I can’t sit down, I’m too pissed off to sit.”
“It doesn’t mean anything, J.”
Justin whirled around at that. “How can you say that? You saw what they said, what they think? How can it not matter?”
“Because I know what the truth is.” JC held out a hand and waited, knowing from Justin’s stance that the anger had fizzled out and sadness was creeping in. It took less than a minute for the younger man to shuffle over and take the offered hand. Seconds later JC found himself with an lapful of solid male.
“I hate this shit.”
“I know.” JC stroked a hand down Justin’s back, soothing as only he knew how.
“And I hate that they think that about me. I know I shouldn’t fucking care, but I do and I hate that, too.” Justin sighed as he wrapped an arm around JC’s back and tipped them so that they fell onto the bed. He buried his face against JC’s chest, taking comfort in the steady beat of his heart.
“How could they ever believe that I would do something like that to you?”
“There always has to be a villain, J. For whatever reason, this time they picked you.”
“Fuck them.”
“Well, I’d rather not, but if you really want me to, I’ll do it.” JC kissed the top of Justin’s head. “For you.”
Justin’s lips curved. “Can I watch?”
“Perv.”
“Uh huh, but you know that’s what you love about me the most.”
“Actually it’s the way you,” JC whispered the rest of the sentence in Justin’s ear and watched him blush. “But if you want to think it’s because you’re a perv, I’ll let you.”
“Is that what you really like?”
“Uh huh.”
“Why didn’t you ever tell me that before?”
JC grinned, “Because you’re already conceited enough?”
“Hey!” Justin protested, but he was grinning, too.
“Better?” JC asked, after Justin had settled back against him.
“Yes, but I still hate them. They have no right, C. They don’t know me and they have no right to judge me like that.”
“I know they don’t, baby.”
“I wish we could tell them.”
“We can, if that’s what you want.”
“I just want you.”
“You have me.”
They kissed, a gentle meeting of lips.
“And you can have the other, too, J, if you ever want to. All you have to do is say the word.”
Justin shook his head. “Not for that reason, not for them. When we do that, it’ll be for us. Fuck them, I don’t care what they think. We know.”
“And that’s enough?”
“That’s enough.”
“Good. Now,” JC rolled until he had Justin exactly where he wanted him. “About that thing you do…”
